Welcome to the Paintrock Angus Ranch
We are located near Hyattville Wyoming, on the high desert badlands, near the foot of the western slope of the Big Horn Mountains. The ranch has been a Mercer family operation for over 100 years and for over 50 years we have been actively involved with Angus.
Paintrock cattle forage from the badlands in the spring and move to summer pastures at over 8000 feet up in Big Horn Mountains. These cattle have to travel long distances for water, and they graze in big pastures where it takes 50 to 60 acres to support one cow. With the severe weather conditions in northern Wyoming, these cattle must also be tough enough to survive.
Only the productive and adaptable cows are retained in the herd. A ruthless culling program, with high standards in the areas of structural soundness, progeny performance, EPD's and fertility, is the first criteria for retention. Another area we have been testing for, and our cattle have excelled in, is carcass data. We must not forget the traits which have made Paintrock Angus a leader in seedstock production. These are calving ease, maternal strength, and rapid efficient growth along with good dispositions.

We were awarded with the 2006 Wyoming Centennial Farm & Ranch Award. This program honors families that have owned and operated the same farm or ranch in Wyoming for 100 years or longer. We were awarded this award at the WY State Fair by Governor Dave Freudenthal and US Senator Craig Thomas.
